Don’t miss this exclusive event for Gold and Platinum pass holders which offers you the chance to visit Colchester Zoo as it is waking up!
The zoo will open at 7.30am for a special timetable of activities and tours.
Wake Up With Timetable
7.30 – 9.30 Church Open Morning– a rare chance to step inside the ruins of All Saints Church
7.45 Tamandua feed - Catch a glimpse of one of the zoo’s most elusive animals.
7.45 Red Panda breakfast- A lazy breakfast is all you can expect with our laid back pandas. Bridge viewing area
8.00 Breakfast with the Orangutans- Rajang and Tiga are the best of friends-but don’t expect them to share breakfast!
8.00 Wake up Wallabies!– Join the keepers and help feed as they check the inhabitants of the new wallaby walkabout
8.00 Otter breakfast- our pair of Asian short clawed otters enjoy waking up together to a traditional breakfast of boiled eggs (but hold the soldiers!) |

8.15 Elephant Wash Time – Our elephants are just like any other girl- typically spending ages in the bath-watch them get ready for the busy day ahead. Inside house.
8.15 Meerkat morning munchies- come along and witness our meerkat ‘mob’ their keepers for an early morning treat
8.15am - Reptile and invertebrate care workshop- help the keepers check, count and care for the variety of reptiles and inverts in the discovery centre
8.30 – Early Bird training session - Find out how the free flying birds are trained. Displays arena
8.30 - Giraffe training-it sounds like a tall order, but Colchester Zoo’s training programme has reached great heights! Top floor of giraffe building 8.30 Giant Anteater feed – What does an anteater eat? It may sound like a stupid question, but may not quite be what you expect, come along and find out!
8.45 Lemur and Gelada Breakfast – Join the keepers at lemur island as they give some of our most endangered primates their breakfast. Meet at Julie Ward picnic area.

9.00- Horse grooming demonstration- Brushing, foot care and training are part and parcel of the horse keeper’s daily routine-watch as these gentle giants work with their keepers to stay in top condition. Displays arena
9.00 Big Cat training session - Get up close as the keeper’s first job of the morning is to train the king of the jungle! Meet at lion rock.
9.00 “We Dive at Dawn!” – Watch the divers at work as they clean the sea lion pool and find out what it takes to maintain this magnificent exhibit. – Sea lion tunnel

9.15 - Lakeland bird feed – Join our train driver and help feed the ducks and geese along the lakeside. -Meet at Aardvark burrow
9.15 Africa Awakens – Watch the animals of the African plains enjoy the exuberance of a fresh new day as they are turned out onto the paddock with this special talk. Kingdom of the Wild Paddock
9.30 Mandrill breakfast – Watch the Mandrills enjoy their healthy option breakfast.
9.30 Ant & Dec-orate- every morning the ants need new leaves to take to their nest-find out how we care for these very specialist feeders
This event is only for those that have a valid gold or platinum pass on the morning of the event and any accompanying under 3s. Colchester Zoo cannot accept internet vouchers on the morning and new cards cannot be collected at the gate on the day. |
